Lots of Painting…. I really like January!

So, spending lots of time in the studio. Almost finished up the small Santiago Tree painting and ¾ done with a portrait of my grandson, Little Bill. Visiting two months ago, he looked at all my paintings and said “Gramma… can you paint a painting of me.” And I realized I hadn’t painted him yet and you know – we never want our little ones to feel excluded in any way… Gosh I love my children and grandchildren.

So started the painting last week and it seems every time I wander into the studio now I find myself picking up a brush and just doing a bit of painting on that portrait. Which led me to looking at some of my older portraits and thinking about changes I want to make on those… So portraits hung up all over in the studio now and working a bit on each of them as the mood strikes. As well as getting ready to work some of the magic fluid into the Santiago Tree painting.

Haven’t spent a lot of time on the computer as a result of spending more time with the paint brush in my hand… which is probably a good thing. February will be soon enough for leveling out, re-balancing, re-prioritizing and putting some effort into grant writing and bringing my artist statement current. I’m heading in a bit of a new direction this year with where I put my effort and the statement will need to reflect those thoughts.

About Kat Bryan Wallace

I am a two-dimensional artist and writer working with memories interpreted in paintings, drawings, photographs and my writing. Memory is powerful but not perfect… it changed like a raw photographic image will never return to its original image once changed into a jpeg and our memories, as we remember them, shape us into who we become. Life recycles as we remember the past and evolve. My art is about interpreting life, memories and knowledge, what makes life possible, and how this all will affect the future.
